Student Engagement

Explore Student Engagement at Glenunga International High School. Learn about our wellbeing programs, clubs, sports, leadership opportunities, and learner support.

Student LIFE Clubs

We enhance Student LIFE by providing a vast number of clubs, opportunities and experiences for students to share their interests, make friends and develop as holistic learners. Student-led clubs provide a place for everyone to share their interests and enjoy opportunities beyond their academic program.

Club meetings are weekly, mostly during lunch times and a teacher is present to support student leaders. Together we organise events, fundraisers, excursions, tournaments, competitions and more! Participation leads to new friendships and leadership opportunities.

Wellbeing

The wellbeing of our students is at the centre of everything we do. We strive to develop the ‘whole person’ and take pride in our approach to personalised learning that nurtures the full potential of each student.

We see wellbeing as an integral part of our students’ learning experience and aim to foster and develop the skills to learn, grow, and succeed. Our Wellbeing Framework operates within the context of the Department for Education’s Wellbeing for Learning and Life Framework and adheres to our school values.

Sport

Sport at Glenunga is an opportunity for all students and staff to get involved in the school’s culture. We promote collaboration and inclusivity and develop a sense of belonging and pride by connecting students with one of our four house teams:

  • Air / Ngayirda (white)
  • Earth / Yarta (green)
  • Fire / Karla (red)
  • Water / Kauwi (blue)

Student Leadership

Student Leadership is an important part of school life at Glenunga and a valuable contribution to the school community. We offer more than 200 formal and informal roles for students to grow their leadership skills across all year levels.

These opportunities enable students to become more confident individuals, dynamic leaders and supportive team members. Prefects provide strategic leadership and advice to our school leaders. Our three student-led Councils: 21st Century Learners, Wellbeing, and International Mindedness, provide leadership for our whole school improvement priorities.

The Pod

The Pod is a flexible, dynamic learning space and learner support model, which provides students with academic, social/emotional and positive behavioural support. The Pod provides personalised interventions for students needing additional support for their learning or behaviour and fosters positive outcomes by making success inclusive for all students. The Pod is made up of a multidisciplinary team including leaders, teachers, ancillary staff, tutors and volunteers.

Students with identified barriers to learning as a result of learning difficulties, verified disabilities or emotional needs, may have timetabled POD lessons to promote academic growth. POD Lines are an intervention that provides personalised support in and around learner needs (including wellbeing, academic, learning, and organisational).

The Learning Hub

The Learning Hub is a dynamic, flexible environment where students can enjoy a variety of learning resources and community spaces.
It provides an extensive collection of materials in print, digital and audio formats to support curriculum needs, independent learning and personal interests.

If you can’t find what you are looking for in print, we offer access to a wide range of digital resources and databases. The Learning Hub team includes a Teacher Librarian and qualified staff available to support students in the use of the variety of materials available.
