What is the Governing Council?

We want to keep you updated on what our Glenunga Governing Council discussed in its monthly meetings. Any questions please contact us via website address. Our key discussion items were:

New Building to accommodate year 7’s in 2022: architects Design Inc have been appointed; concept design is being completed.

Material and Services charges: Council supported the recommended 1.4% increase ($12) for 2020. This matches the Education CPI for Adelaide. The importance of the M & S in enabling our school to deliver the high level of education our children benefit from was acknowledged and endorsed.

eLearning Portfolio: Tim Kloeden Director of Studies presented a highly engaging and interactive session on the eLearning portfolio that students have developed. This tracks their progress against the important 21st century behaviours known as the 4C’s. Council strongly encourages parents to accept the invitation to attend meetings in Week 3 of Term 4 to view their students’ ePortfolio and learn more about this important initiative.

Head Prefect handover: Outgoing Head Prefects Olivia and David introduced incoming Head Prefects for 2020, Lexi and Alex. Council acknowledged the significant value prefects contribute to Council meetings, adding great insight into school life and representing the student body.

Term 4

Monday the 28th of October

Monday the 2nd of December

1. Governing Council thanked the parent community for their overwhelming support in the 2020 Material and Services Poll. The Poll showed a yes majority this enables our school to continue providing the quality and range of education choices on offer at GIHS.

2. Governing Council farewelled our 2019 Prefects and wishes them the very best in their future directions. The Council was particularly impressed with the legacy they seamlessly handed over to the 2020 Prefect cohort who was also formally welcomed. With the high calibre and commitment of our incoming Prefects, 2020 will no doubt be another great year for student leadership.

3. Governing Council were privileged to receive an extensive presentation and update from our Student Life Directors, Helen Bush and Kel Mocilnik. The data tells us that participation in Student Life in our school continues to grow with over 1200 students involved in 2019. Our passionate Directors continue to provide opportunities for students that foster holistic education and service learning. For more information about Student Life Program parents can visit the school website.

4. Governing Council approved the school’s Provisional Budget for 2020 noting the school’s ongoing responsible fiscal management.
