Student Success in the 2017 School Mathematics Competition
On Wednesday 15 March, 240 GIHS Students took part in the Keith Hamann School Mathematics Competition; 105 Juniors, 88 Intermediates and 47 Seniors.
The competition is sponsored by The Society of Petroleum Engineers, forming a part of their commitment to educating young people and raising awareness about the Society’s purpose. The competition encourages interested students to take on the challenge of solving non-standard problems.
Overall the students representing GIHS achieved some fantastic results:
In the Junior category four students placed in the top 8 (1st, 2nd, 4th and 8th), with seven High Distinctions, five Distinctions and six Credits. The Intermediate category also had four students place in the top 8 (1st, 4th, and two equal 8th), with five High Distinctions, four Distinctions and four Credits. In the senior category one student placed 9th and the group achieved five High Distinctions, two Distinctions and three Credits.
We are exceptionally proud of the achievements of all students who participated in the School Mathematics Competition for 2017.
